To date, few people have been able to access their legal rights through the immigration and asylum services. Most of the refugee population have just completed the administrative profiling process of “preregistration” – and await formal legal proceedings. Due to the complexity of claims, bureaucracy and limitations on resources, it is expected many people will remain in Greece awaiting due process and decisions for between 1-2 years, and those that apply or are accepted to remain in Greece may need housing and community support into the next decade.
